It had been so long since anyone had bought her flowers, she had absolutely no idea where her vase was. Mentally kicking herself for not remembering earlier and so buying a vase in town, the only thing that sprang to mind was the tall asparagus steamer. She took the mesh inner out, filled the steamer up with tap water and added half the packet of supplied plant food. As it stood there ‘steeping’, she turned to the flowers, cutting the bottom inch or so off each stem, poured some boiling water from the kettle into a cup and plunged each rose stem into the boiling water for a second or two. After arranging all the flowers in the asparagus steamer she went and found a spot in the lounge where she could enjoy them, stainless steel vase and all.

Chapter 2 part 1  Covert Observations There was a soft vibration in his pocket. He sighed and looked across at his wife who was preparing fruit for the pudding later that evening. It was their turn as hosts in the dinner club and the guests would be arriving around eight for an evening of dining, wining and ‘bon homie’ expecting to conclude around midnight. The rules were simple, the hosts had to prepare all the food themselves, and also had to import the wines. No friends, servants, maids or other assistants were allowed, and it was expected that those hosts who employed such, would ensure that it was their night off and that they would be long gone before eight, naturally not returning until after the dinner concluded and guests had gone. A plate of snacks and light refreshments would also have to be provided for those of the guests that would, by necessity, be accompanied. Day seven, part 2 Although Eldred had her memories and thus knew how to drive, technically at least, Vanessa had no confidence that he would actually be competent behind the controls of anything. She had therefore gone to the hire centre and picked up a mini bus. They would need it for their batch of food donors, the rental clerk had no idea that he had given her the keys to the minibus, and had filled out forms in a completely fictitious name. She planned to get the minibus back well before the end of the day. After picking up the minibus she had driven past her house, there seemed no sign of activity, her front door was repaired and she doubted her key would work, the police would be sure to have changed the lock. Fortunately her house had a back door she and a back door key hidden in the garden. chapter 3 part 4 Edward drove through the chicanes that lead to the gatehouse and showed his security pass to the Guard, amused as always at having to show a pass with your ID on to someone you were on first name terms with. He drove through the gate and barrier system and parked the car in his bay and headed into his office. At his desk at a weekend was an all too frequent requirement of his job, but he always enjoyed the peace and quiet a mostly empty weekend office bought. No heels clicking in corridors, no trilling phones or whirring photocopiers. No muted voices or assistants destroying moments of concentration with their eagerness to help.
